Demolition of the old boardwalk began on schedule and went smoothly thanks to an efficient crew and beautiful weather. More than 75 tons of debris were removed and transported to the Baddeck Waste Transfer Station, and the boardwalk site has now been fully cleared and prepped for the next phase of work. Much of the wood from the demolition was taken for reuse by community groups and individuals.

Looking ahead, Tuesday of this week will bring the start of the watermain installation, a critical part of this broader infrastructure project. As this phase begins, we will keep everyone updated on traffic control measures and do our best to minimize disruptions in the village. Pile driving equipment should be on-site toward the end of the week. Stay tuned for more updates, and be sure to follow along as the next phase of the projects unfolds.

We had a great day on Saturday as volunteers removed boards from the Baddeck boardwalk in preparation for construction. It was a bit of a production, with pry bars, chain saws, and plenty of teamwork, but the energy and enthusiasm made it a great success.

A big thank you to everyone who came out, including members of the Baddeck Nordic Club, trail groups, and community volunteers.

Many of the removed boards are still in good shape and will be reused by the community for trail projects and other creative purposes. Construction starts tomorrow, and the boardwalk is now officially closed to the public for the duration of the work. We will continue to share updates and photos on the progress as the project moves forward.

Stay tuned, and thank you again to everyone helping bring this project to life!

As part of the Baddeck boardwalk project, work will begin this Saturday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. to remove some of the existing wooden boards in advance of construction starting on May 12.

This initial phase is being carried out by members of the Waterfront Baddeck Committee, along with community groups including Baddeck Nordic and local trail groups. Many of the boards are still in good condition, and rather than sending them to landfill, we are encouraging reuse. Some boards will be stored by the Village, and others may find new life in trail projects or other community use.

You may notice a bit of activity around the boardwalk this weekend as people come by with safety gear and pry bars to assist with removal.  If there are extra boards available, we will make them available for pickup.

The boardwalk will be officially closed once board removal begins.

Stay tuned for more updates.
